You can now feel your seat before actual boarding on the plane as United Airlines lets you see the seats before making a reservation. Not only are the seats, but you can also view other features of the plane while the camera is rolling inside it, such as the location of the bathroom, how much room there is in the bulkhead row, and which seat is best.
This feature called the new virtual seat map will have its debut on the airline's website on Saturday, not for all types of a plane but to 50- seat CRJ 550 as a beginner. The airline would soon expand this feature to other types.
USA Today reported about the executive vice president of technology and chief digital officer for United Airlines, Linda Jojo has to say about this airline's new feature. The main goal of the seat map is to "demystify" the various types of airplane seats today.
Confusions, as earlier noted by major airlines, were experienced by passengers for the introduction of different types of seats to suit the traveller's budget and tastes. Some were hesitant to choose due to being unfamiliar with the seats when they can only read those types and not having any look.
But now the 3D would tour them and have a virtual view inside the plane. Then they can immediately choose the seats they want depending on their budgets and preferences. Most passengers who do not yet know with United Airline's types of seats may have doubts in choosing seats with extra perks in the economy cabin. Unlike any other airlines, with seats in a spot, United's Economy plus seats have extra legroom and in-set power outlet.
Jojo further explained that the virtual seat map is not a tool to lead passengers in buying cushier seats, but "that might happen." The main goal of this new feature is for passengers to buy what they really want. Although the prices will not be shown as they are on the regular online seat map, the feature is still beneficial, and it is planned to include the costs in the future.
The view of the seats can be accessed during the booking process, not on the search page after you gave your personal data. Click the 3D View of the aircraft button, and you can automatically view the inside of the plane. The camera will move to tour you around and help you know the exact location of your desired seat.
This new feature would serve as a starter for other airlines to follow, according to travellers' comments. Some still have doubts regarding this, but clarification would be best answered on Saturday at United Airline's website.
In addition to the 3D previews during the ticket booking feature, United Airlines also have other new services to be offered to its passengers. Although the new services will not be available on all United aircraft, this is the start of the United's vision to extend its horizons in terms of serving its passengers fully.
