NFL Player, Da'Quan Bowers, Accused of Having Gun at LaGuardia Airport

A football player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was accused of having a gun at a New York airport.

Da'Quan Bowers, 22, was accused of having a semiautomatic weapon in his suitcase as he passed through LaGuardia airport on Monday. He was arrested at the ticket counter for having the .40-caliber handgun, CNN reports.

The fun was unloaded but he had bullets in a separate location of the suitcase. According to New York firearms law, the gun is still considered to be loaded if the bullets are found near the weapon.

He was charged with second-degree criminal possession by Judge Toko Serita
in New York Criminal Court on Monday night.

Bowers' bail was set at $10,000. After the arraignment he was seen getting into a car and driving away.

He was about to board a US Airways flight to North Carolina when he was stopped at the airport.

Bowers was headed to North Carolina and was flying on US Airways, Campbell said.

"We are aware of the situation and are gathering information. We will withhold comment until we know all the facts," Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday, General Manager Mark Dominik told CNN.

Bowers' defense attorney, Dennis Coppin did not return CNN's calls. Bowers can leave New York if his bail is posted. He must appear in court on April 25.

It is not clear if he had a permit for the gun.

This isn't the first time someone from the sports world was caught with a gun.

In October, New Orleans Hornets Vice President Joshua Richardson was able to
board a plane with his loaded gun. The TSA realized the mistake when he boarded a return flight. The gun he had was actually loaded and it was in his carry-on.
