In a tale of sordid romance, an Argentine woman married the convicted killer of her twin sister on Valentines Day, Feb. 14. Fox News reported that a mob gathered around the civil registry office where Edith Cass, 23, married Victor Cingolani who was convicted of killing her twin sister Johana more than two years ago and is serving a 13 year prison sentence.
Thie bride, Edith, says that her new husband did not kill her sister. Cingolani, 28, was taken back to jail in handcuffs after the ceremony.
"I've always said that she is threatened by the Cingolani family; I'm afraid that something might happen to her because he is a killer and a manipulator," her mother said to local media.
The bride's mother thinks that Edith is crazy, reported Fox News. She tried to block the wedding legally, but a judge found her capable of making her own decisions.
Johana Casas was found dead in a field in southern Santa Cruz province in the town of Pico Truncado in 2010 by two bullets in the chest.
Cingolani was Johana's boyfriend at one point and police detained him and another man, Marcos Diaz who was believed to be Johana's current boyfriend when she died. Diaz was released because of lack of evidence but Cingolani was convicted.
The Daily Mail reported that people threw eggs and stones at the bride as she left the register office. Cingolani was convicted when a court found that he was a "willing participant" in the killing.
The Daily Mail reported that Diaz, will be tried in May.
The Independent reported that Cingolani said to local news, "I'm getting married because I love Edith. I didn't think the wedding would have so many repercussions worldwide."
Edith said last year, "I'm going to get married to the person I love and not the person who killed my sister," reported The Daily Mail.
