Carnival Triumph: Passengers Offered 15 Percent Off on Future Carnival Cruise After Stranding Disaster

The end of the nightmare is almost near for passengers aboard the Carnival Triumph, the cruise ship that was left adrift after and engine-room fire and as compensation, passengers are being offered a 15 percent discount on a future Carnival Cruise.

When the fire broke out, the water and power system were taken down, leaving more than 4,000 passengers and crew members stranded about 150 miles off the coast of Mexico.

The luxury cruise then became a nightmare as food became limited, the air conditioning went out and the toilets stopped working.

The ship is being pulled by two boats to a port in Mobile, Alabama and as compensation, in addition to a full refund on the current cruise, the passengers are being offered a 15 percent discount on a future cruise just in case they want to try it all over again, the Daily Mail reports.

The passengers are being given a full refund for the cost of the cruise, transportation costs, pre-paid shore excursions, gratuities, and government fees and taxes.

However passengers can take 25 percent off a future three to five day cruise or a 15 percent discount on a six or seven day cruise.

Passengers might not be so quick to jump on that offer after the ordeal they've been going through.

With only five working toilets, passengers are being asked to urinate in showers and defecate in bags while their cabin toilets are overflowing with remains.

There are long lines for limited, cold food and passengers have resorted to fighting like savages in some cases.

Carnival Cruise Line President Gerry Cahill apologized for the experience that the passengers are going through.

"No one here from Carnival is happy about the conditions on board the ship," Cahill said according to NPR, "and we obviously are very, very sorry about what is taking place. There is no question that conditions onboard the ship are very challenging."

"Every action we are taking is to get our guests home as quickly as possible," Cahill said, "and to make them as comfortable as they can be, onboard."

This wasn't the first time the ship had issues. The ship also had issues on Jan. 28 and was delayed for several hours due to a propulsion problem.

The next 12 cruises that were booked on the Carnival Triumph have been canceled.
