It'll never been a better time to buy that new MacBook than now because Apple is having one of their rare sale--they have"dropped [the] price of its Retina-equipped 13-in. MacBook Pro by as much as $300, and lowered the price of its top-end MacBook Air by $100," according to computerworld.com.
The company has also increased processor speeds in some of its models:
"The 13-in. MacBook Pro with Retina now sporting a 2.6GHz Intel Core i5. The two stock 15-in. MacBook Pro with Retina notebooks also got a performance boost," reported computerworld.com.
For those still wanting the best and don't mind paying the price, even the top-of-the-line MacBooks are included in the sale and updates.
"The 15-inch model still starts at $2,199, but now that gets you a quad-core 2.4GHz Core i7 processor. If you want the best of the best, you can now get a 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro with a quad-core 2.7GHz Core i7 processor with 16GB of RAM for $2,799," according to CNN.
"They've got slow growth in PC sales like everyone, and lower prices help...I think Apple made this move [because] it had seen disappointing results because of the high [Mac] prices," said Ezra Gottheil, an analyst with Technology Business Research, who also cited efficiencies in Retina screen production and processor price cuts as likely contributors to Apple's decision, stated computerworld.com.
One other reason for the sale is the criticism by some about how their first-generation MacBoook Pro models don't live up to the hype or price.
"What's inescapable is that this first version of the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro isn't a winner when it comes to price and performance," wrote Mashable senior tech analyst Christina Warren in her review. "It's just a bit too expensive," according to CNN.
The sales are effective starting today, both online and in stores, and though it isn't isn't clear if the sale will also drop the already discounted student-prices, a price drop by Apple is big news.
