NYC Tourist Raped: Australian Woman Assaulted in a New York City Alley

A NYC tourist from Australia was raped after leaving a club on early Sunday morning.

According to the New York Post, the 20-year-old victim from Australia had been drinking at Lavo, a club which is frequented by stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Gerard Butler. The woman left at around 3:35 a.m. and jumped into a cab to head back to where she was staying. Her friends had left earlier because they didn't feel well.

However for some reason, the woman had an argument with her cab driver and got out of the car. The Daily News said she got out because traffic was bad.

The woman was walking along the street and texting one of her friends when she was grabbed from behind and was dragged into a nearby alley, where she was raped.

The woman couldn't remember the exact location when she was questioned by police. Detectives are hoping surveillance video may be able to tell them the location and more about the suspect. Police are also looking to speak to the cab driver. The location was somewhere on the west side and believed to be not too far from the club on 58th street.

The NYPD released a sketch of the suspect. He is described as a black middle-aged man, about 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing when he attacked the woman, including a dark skull cap. He is believed to be between 35 and 40 years old.
