Four people were killed on a Carnival float during a parade on Tuesday. The float caught on fire during the Carnival parade in Santos, Brazil.
The float caught on fire when it ran into a power line at the end of the parade. Three of the victims were pushed under the float during the incident and a fourth victim was a parade watcher. Four others were injured.
The float that caught on fire belonged to the fan club for one of the top football teams in Brazil, FC Santos. The float was dedicated to former Santos football superstar, Pele.
A former football player and a group of children got off the float shortly before the accident.
The float belonged to the fan club of FC Santos, one of Brazil's top football teams, and paid homage to football great Pele, a former Santos player, Raw Story reports.
Pele, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, offered his condolences to the families of those who were lost.
"This is something that we cannot understand, but must deliver ourselves into the hands of God," Pele, 72, told G1 news.
Santos Mayor Paulo Alexandre Barbosa suspended the remainder of the parade following the incident.
This deadly fire incident comes one month after a nightclub fire killed 239 people in Brazil.
In addition to the fire float on Tuesday, there was heavy police security at a ceremony is Sao Paulo in which judges were announcing this year's samba school winner. Last year a riot broke out between two schools when a fan ran up to the judges and tore up votes.
The country is now facing criticism for not having stricter safety laws or fire codes.
These incidents may impact two huge events coming up in the country including the 2014 World Cup of soccer and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
