Larry Bird's Son Arrested: Connor Bird Arrested for Trying to Hit His Ex-Girlfriend With a Car

The son of basketball player, Larry Bird has been arrested in Indiana. The Associated Press said that 21-year-old Connor Bird tried to run over his ex-girlfriend with a car.

He faces charges including intimidation with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana and battery with injury. Bird was arrested by police on Sunday morning and police said to the AP that his ex-girlfriend said to police that Bird threw a cellphone at her and drive his car at her as they argued.

The basketball star's son is a student at Indiana University's Bloomington campus. Larry Bird is an Indiana native.

USA Today reported that the trouble began when Bird and his ex-girlfriend got into a fight on Sunday at his apartment.

"Another IU student witnessed the incident, police said, and took the female to the Indiana University Police Department," USA Today reported.

There have been no formal charges made against Connor Bird as of yet said an administrative assistant at the prosecutor's office to USA Today.

No formal charges against Bird had yet been filed by the Monroe County prosecutor as of 11:30 a.m. today, said an administrative assistant at the prosecutor's office.

John L. Tompkins, Connor's attorney said, "This is a very private matter that we're going to try to resolve quickly. We're thankful that no one was seriously injured."

TMZ reported that Bird was also arrested in 2011 for underage drinking as well as disorderly conduct.

Larry Bird retired in 1992 but was a key player in the NBA. He was drafter into the NBA by the boston Celtics in 1978 and is a 12-time NBA All0star and was voted MVP three times. He played his entire career for Boston.

"Once every generation or so, a player comes along who can truly be called a superstar. Larry Bird was such a player. For 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics, from 1979-80 through 1991-92, Bird personified hustle, consistency and excellence in all areas of play--as a scorer, a passer, a rebounder, a defender, a team player, and, perhaps above all, as a clutch performer," said NBA.com about Larry Bird.

Larry Bird also went to Indiana University in Bloomington for a short period of time. Yahoo Sports reports that he was a student athlete at IU in 1974 but the size of the campus was too big for him. He dropped out after not even a month and finally enrolled at Indiana State after a few years of community college and odd jobs.
