Michael Vick Deal: Restructured Deal Allows QB To Return To Philadelphia Eagles

Thanks to a restructured deal, Michael Vick will return to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2013 season.

Under the new deal, Vick could earn $10 million if all incentives and bonuses are meant.

This contract replaces the six-year, $100 million contract Vick signed in 2011 and he now is scheduled to be a free agent after next season, according to ESPN.

"He wanted to be here," new Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Monday, according to ESPN, in his first meeting with the media following his opening news conference on Jan. 17. "I had never met him before. The one thing that attracted me to him is Michael is a competitor. Nick is, too. You want guys who want to compete."

In a statement, Vick said he was "grateful and proud" to be with the Eagles.

"My heart is in Philly and this community is important to me. I look forward to playing for Coach Kelly, [owner] Jeffrey Lurie and the entire Eagles organization, the city of Philadelphia and the fans. I am training hard this offseason and will be ready for Coach Kelly's team vision and leadership. Our goal is to win," he said, according to ESPN.

However, Vick will not be guaranteed the starting quarterback job. He will be able to "compete" for the starting role because there are a few questions about his durability and his age.

"He now seems far removed from that resurgent 2010 season. He finished that year with 3,018 yards passing, 676 yards rushing and 30 total touchdowns," reported ESPN.

Vick played in only 10 games last season, and in the finale versus the Giants, he had a quarterback rating of just 68.4 en route to a 42-7 loss," according to Sporting News.

"I looked at the films, and studied the tape. When you look at Michael, it's his toughness. That cannot be overrated at all," Kelly said. "We looked at his skill set. He still has that skill set. He can still throw the football." stated Sporting News.

When asked whether Vick or Foles would work with the first-team offense in training camp, Kelly smiled and quickly showed that he'll be able to handle the Philadelphia media just fine.

"We'll go alphabetical," he said with a grin. "First name? Last name? We'll flip a coin," according to ESPN.
