Three people are dead after a helicopter crash in Los Angeles County while filming a reality TV show. Robert Diaz, the Los Angeles County Fire dispatcher said to the AP that the crash occurred about 3:40 a.m. on Sunday at the Polsa Rosa Ranch which was being used as a filming location.
Everyone on the helicopter died and their names have not yet been released. The AP reported that a spokesperson, Philip Sokoloski, for FilmL.A. confirmed that a production company was approved to use a helicopter for a reality TV show. It is still unknown why the crash occurred.
"Permit paperwork shows Bongo, Inc. was working on an untitled military-theme TV program. Records also show Crossbow Helicopters received approval to participate in filming from the Federal Aviation Administration," reported The AP.
"We wouldn't have referenced helicopter activity if we didn't already have pre-approval from the FAA," Sokoloski said to the AP.
A full investigation is underway and the FAA are looking at the Bell 206B Jet Ranger to see if it malfunctioned during the crash and to see whether flying conditions were safe at the time of the crash for the pilot.
According to polsarosa.com the ranch is "located in the 30-mile zone along the Santa Clara River and boardering the Angeles National Forest." It's a movie ranch that includes a film water tank, two airstrip airport Airport, railroad tracks, Jungle and forest as well as a single-lane bridge and a new England styled period township.
The ranch has been used in a number of movies including "Adaptation," "Red Dawn," "Windtakers" and "The Outsider."
Though its not completely clear what the reality tv show is about, other shows such as "Survivor," "Jackass," and "Fear Factor" have been under media scrutiny in the past few years for its daredevil stunts.
