With reports of Blizzard Nemo headed for the Northeast, fashion designer Michael Kors arrived at New York Fashion Week making a statement, but not a flattering one: he wore Uggs.
Backstage, he quickly changed the boots for black leather, saying, "I came in looking like Pam Anderson," The Daily News reported.
Zac Posen told The Daily News he would present his collection as usual on Sunday, but he was concerned that out-of-town editors and retailers might not be able to make it.
Marc Jacobs, arguably the city's biggest designer, according to The Daily Beast, postponed his Monday night show to Thursday.
But overall, with a slightly slower pace and more bundled up attire, Fashion Week managed to start off strong.
Although Fashion Week attendees are usually decked out in impractical clothes, this year, show-goers wore duck boots and wellies, as well as puffy coats, according to The Daily Beast.
"If for some reason the storm takes a turn and is potentially dangerous, then there will be a decision made, but that's not going to happen-especially in New York," Steven Kolb, CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, told The Daily Beast. "We are OK, we can get through a little bit of snow. Maybe the worst thing about the snow is that it forces people to change their outfits."
Caroline Issa, an editor at Tank magazine, said that the weather convinced her to reconsider her clothing choices.
"This morning I was wearing my Tom Ford thigh-high boots and I was slipping and sliding and literally taxis were honking and laughing at me, so I was like, OK, I need to find myself something with height but a little bit of grip," Issa told The Daily Beast.
And designer Tory Burch, who is working on finishing her collection in time for her Tuesday morning show, told The Daily Beast that she's having staffers who live outside the city stay overnight so they don't get stuck.
The storm didn't hinder some fashionistas from dressing to the nines. Allison Williams and Jamie King looked "straight out of a cocktail party on a summer night at the Jason Wu show," as The Daily Beast put it. Elettra Wiedemann, who is covering Fashion Week for New York Magazine this year, wore a leather skirt with bare legs and high heels.
Celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch told The Daily News that there are a couple ways for Fashion Week attendees to choose a blizzard-appropriate outfit.
"You either come in warm and comfortable clothes and boots or you come in neon - or sequins would be a good one - so they see you in the drift," he said.
