In need of a quick place to rest, do your business, or somewhere to shut your eye for a short power nap? If you're in San Francisco, Northern California, or New York, you don't need to find your closest friend's house to crash. With the Recharge app, you can now stay at luxury hotels by the minute.
First launched in San Francisco in 2016, the Recharge app became available in New York since April 24, with over 16 choices of luxury hotels in the Big Apple. Now, you can book by-the-minute deals in hotels such as the W New York, The Knickerbocker Hotel, The Pierre (Taj), Hotel Central Park, and more.
CN Traveler reports that New York luxury hotels mostly charge $0.83 to $2 per minute (plus 14.75 percent lodging tax). In order to avail this one-off deal, simply download the Recharge app from Google Play or the App Store for free, find a hotel nearest you, and hit the "book now" button.
Your billing countdown will start as soon as you check in the hotel, or 30 minutes after you hit the "book now" button. From there, you can stay as long as you want with no minimum time requirement. After you're done, just simply push the "check out" button and pay at the counter. Be careful, though. If you try to fool the system by checking out early, you'll be charged with an overstay fee.
The hotels involved are quite happy with this new arrangement, as by-the-minute deals are great for filling in excessive daytime vacancy levels, according to Skift. "Every single minute that you're in a Recharge is a more valuable minute than if you were a regular overnight customer," said Chief Executive Officer and founder Manny Bamfo of Recharge Labs.
As Recharge is slowly gaining popularity, Bamfo eyes a big future for the app. If all goes well, Recharge can be made available in the whole country too.
