Sleeping Around Pop Up Hotel in Antwerp Uses Mobile Shipping Containers As Rooms

A new pop-up hotel in Antwerp, Belgium is using old Chinese shipping containers into hotels. CNN Go reported that the company called Sleeping Around has mobile rooms that act like small villages of six containers. It comes with Four sleeping containers, a breakfast lounge container and another sauna container.

"Our pop-up hotel offers a readymade answer: a compact yet luxurious hotel room, equipped with all the mod cons: a box-spring bed, rain shower, iPod docking station and air conditioning - all contained in a 20ft recycled sea container," says the hotel's website.

The hotel claims to use only environmentally friendly materials when building the hotel. The hotel moves around the city and is looking for suggestions for its next location in Antwerp.

"We think green and employ only ecologically responsible materials. The containers themselves are produced in China, after which they are used for worldwide transport," notes the hotel's website. "As it is not always profitable to return the containers empty, they are often left behind in ports, including Antwerp's. This unique concept offers the ideal mix of adventure and comfort at some of the most impressive locations in the city."

The hotel rooms come with high quality linen an XXL Hansgrohe Raindance Shower and a Dyson air conditioning system amongst its amenities.

"Start the day with a lovely breakfast, have a cup of Illy coffee in the afternoon or enjoy a delicious glass of wine in the evening. The breakfast/lounge container is a cosy get together area with a wonderful view," the hotel's website said of the breakfast lounge.

GOOD reported that the hotel doesn't have an address and visitors have to find the room by GPS.

"Why make a temporary hotel? In some cases, it can be a way to give travelers a way to experience a unique corner of a city without the ecological (or literal) footprint of a standard new building. For events, like music festivals, that bring hundreds or thousands of people to an area for just a few days, a pop-up hotel can provide an alternative place to stay," said Good.

Its past locations in Antwerp include Villa Vanthilt near the MAS in September and in October the Interieur in Kortrijk.
