A teen gave a judge the finger and now she's paying for it in more ways than one. Penelope Soto will be serving jail time for flashing the bird on top of a hefty bond for having an attitude. The whole incident was caught on video.
Soto, 18, appeared in court after she was arrested for drug possession. She had Xanax bars, an anxiety medication that can also be used to get high.
When asked about her assets, Soto explained to Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat that she only made $200 a week and that her assets included a car and some jewelry.
The judge asked Soto how much the jewelry was worth and she laughed and said "a lot." Judge Rodriguez-Chomat didn't find it so funny. "'It's not a joke, you know, we're not in a club now. We are not in a club, be serious about it," he said.
Soto continued to look amused, but said 'I'm serious about it, you just made me laugh. You just made me laugh, I apologize. It's worth a lot of money."
Judge Rodriguez-Chomat asked Soto is she had taken drugs in the past 24 hours but she said no. Soto continue to look bored and amused and she kept flicking her hair.
The judge didn't like Soto's behavior so he set her bond at $5,000 and dismissed her. Soto laughed and said "adios" as she walked away.
Annoyed by her response, Judge Rodriguez-Chomat asked her to come back and he once again took her papers and changed to bond to $10,000.
Soto, shocked by the change said, "'Are you serious?'" She then turned around and started walking away, but not before she added fuel to the fire and gave the judge the finger.
The judge called her back again and gave her a 30-day jail sentence for contempt of court.
The judge, unlike Soto, wasn't kidding around.
