The Travel Channel and Sports Illustrated are set to team up for a one-hour TV special about the making of the magazine's 2013 swimsuit issue.
The show, "Sports Illustrated: The Making of Swimsuit: '13-7 Continents, 17 Wonders" will premiere on the Travel Channel on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. eastern and Pacific times, 7 p.m. central time, delmarvanow.com reported.
The show will follow the models, photographers and designers in their journey around the world for photo shoots. "From battling sandstorms in the African dunes to traversing treacherous cliffs in Asia, we'll show what goes into capturing these singular moments on film," said the Travel Channel press release quoted in The Chicago Tribune.
Photo shoots took place on every continent this year - even including Antartica's icy terrain for the first time, delmarvanow.com reported.
"Hands down, this is the most fantastic armchair adventure you can take this winter," the Travel Channel's president, Laureen Ong, told The Chicago Tribune. "We jumped at the chance to partner with Sports Illustrated, knowing our viewers will enjoy this fascinating and exciting travel show packed with extreme backdrops and locations. This is not an hour of just models posing on sandy beaches--this special takes viewers to all seven continents, spotlighting the most magnificent places in the world."
Mark Ford, president of Time Inc. Sports Group, looks forward to the program's airing. "The journey to all seven continents was a bold undertaking to deliver, once again, a spectacular swimsuit production for our millions of loyal fans," he told The Chicago Tribune. "We are delighted that the Travel Channel will present the vibrant behind-the-scenes narrative and visuals of this epic and rigorous production. It will show a completely new and captivating perspective of the Swimsuit franchise."
