Derek Jeter, captain of the New York Yankees, has been sought after by the sports and non-sports media to comment on Alex Rodriguez's latest off-the-field controversy.
Last week, The Miami News Times reported that Rodriguez bought human growth hormone and other performance-enhancing substances during 2009-12 from Biogenesis of America LLC, the anti-aging clinic that has since gone out of business.
Through his recently hired public relations firm, Rodriguez, the World-Series winning, three-time AL MVP denied the accusation.
His denial comes under mass suspicion however, due to his admittance four-years ago about using Preforming Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) during 2001-03,
"I don't comment on anyone until they speak first. Let him address his situation before I comment on it. Let him speak first and then we'll talk about that," said the 38-year-old Jeter on Monday to The New York Daily News.
Jeter, who is recovering from a broken ankle suffered during the Yankees' playoff run when he dove for a grounder in the AL Championship Series opener against Detroit on Oct. 13, opting for surgery a week later, is expected to be fully recovered by the start of the new season.
"Everything's been good," Jeter said. "Everything's right where it needs to be. The goal is April 1st, that's when we start our season. I'm right where I need to be. I've been progressing just fine."
Rodriguez, on the other hand, will be sidelined until after the All-Star Game, maybe even longer, as a result of hip surgery.
Some New Yorkers though would like to see him go for good. One of those is WFAN's Craig Carton, who said during "The Boomer & Carton" show, "I am done with him. We (referring to New Yorkers) are done with him. I hope he doesn't come back. Jeter is a class-act for not saying anything, but enough is enough."
