'iMac 2017' May Have Server-Grade Processor, Support For VR; New Device May Use External GPU Support And Accessible Ports

Apple has yet to provide concrete details on when the "iMac 2017" will release or what specs it will have, but rumors are saying that Intel Xeon processor will power it and it will have support for virtual reality. The new device could also use accessible ports and support for external GPU.

According to a report from Donklephant, rumors are saying that the Intel E301285 v6 variant will be the processor that will power Apple's device. The new processor will allow the "iMac 2017" to have 16GB or RAM.

The report adds that the device will also have NVMe storage of 2TB and a support for integrated virtual reality. This support means that the AMD Radeon R9 290X will be the graphics card that will power the "iMac 2017."

Another rumored spec will be the Touch Bar support for the Magic Keyboard. Other than these rumored specs, Macworld also has several specs and features that they wish would be part of the upcoming device.

Chief among them would be making the ports easier to access. The current iMac has their ports located at the back to maintain the good aesthetics of the iMac. It might not be a big deal for users, but for those who needs to access the ports regularly, this becomes an annoying hindrance.

Another wish list would be for Apple to allow external support for GPU. The report said that the design of iMac limits the type of GPU that can be installed in the device, so having support for external GPU would solve the GPU that demanding apps and software provide.

Lastly, for Apple to use Thunderbolt 3/USB-C on the port of the "iMac 2017," which is likely what the company would do. All of the mentioned specs above are just rumors, with the other being wish list of what the iMac 2017 needs.

Until Apple makes an official announcement, everyone else can only hope to speculate on what will be included. Check out the video below for more "iMac 2017" news.
