Oreo's outage tweet won the social media Super Bowl last night. When the lights went dark at the Super Dome during Super Bowl XLVII, Oreo was quick to release an appropriate ad on twitter.
Shortly after the power outage started in New Orleands during the big game between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, Oreo came up with a quick ad. ""Power out? No problem," they Tweeted, with the photo of an oreo cookie illuminating and a caption that read "You can still dunk in the dark."
The creative and quick tweet instantly caught attention by social media users who needed something to distract themselves with as they waited for the game to return. The blackout lasted for about 35 minutes.
As of now, the tweet has been retweeted 14,589 times and it was favorited close to 5,000 times. Many commented on Oreo's quick response.
Oreo explained how they were able to come up with the ad so quickly to BuzzFeed.
"We had a mission control set up at our office with the brand and 360i, and when the blackout happened, the team looked at it as an opportunity," agency president Sarah Hofstetter told BuzzFeed. "Because the brand team was there, it was easy to get approvals and get it up in minutes."
Oreo wasn't the only one to get in on the blackout fun.
Tide released a tweet that was retweeted over 1,200 times. Tide's "Miracle Stain" commercial was released later during the game commercials.
Calvin Klein released this tweet which was retweeted 239 times.
