It looks like "Yuri!!! On Ice" Season 2 is likely to come out before 2017 ends and it's said to focus on Yuri Katsuki's past. For those who can't get enough of the anime, they can watch the "Eros routine" performed by a Filipino figure skater named Joel Minas.
Crunchyroll reported that they learned from one of their readers named Trisha that Minas was a retired competitive figure skater and was the Asian Junior National Champion in 2010. He was also a member of the Philippine National Figure Skating Team.
As a National team member, Minas accumulated 43 total medals with 30 of them gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze ones. The report said that Minas also loved Mitsurou Kubo's "Yuri!!! On Ice" and season 1's ending hasn't stopped him from continuing to show it.
Last March 26, he was a guest at Born to Make History: a "Yuri!!! On Ice" Fan Gathering. He also performed his personal take on the Eros routine that Yuri performed last March 10 at the SM Megamall Skating Rink in the Philippines, which is Olympic-sized rink.
Minas was even wearing a full costume for the performance, complete with hair and makeup. Though his performance was probably breathtaking, fans (including Minas himself) would still want to know when Yuri Katsuki would return to the ice skating rink, and they likely won't have to wait that long.
According to a report from Celebeat, Kubo's interview late in 2016 hinted that the creator wanted "Yuri!!! On Ice" Season 2 to air in 2017, so it's likely for the series to be released sometime before the year ends. As for what season 2 will be about, the report said that it might focus on Yuri's past.
Fans will probably get to know the protagonist more on a deeper level before his journey to the top of the figure skating world continues. Of course, without any confirmation from Kubo or the producers, these are all speculations at best.
But with the success of "Yuri!!! On Ice" Season 1, it's highly unlikely for a sequel not to take place. In the meantime, check out Mina's personal take on the Eros routine in the video below.
