The six-month search for Oscar Contreras Escobar, a 29-year-old self-employed truck driver, has turned to a home in Ontario, Calif. Foul play is likely in this case, KABC-TV Los Angeles reported.
Back in August, Escobar had finished his deliveries for the day when someone dropped him off near the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Mango Avenue in Fontana, and he hasn't been seen since, according to KABC. Sheriff investigators later noticed suspicious ATM transactions on Escobar's bank accounts, KTLA reported.
Because of the possibility of foul play, police are taking over this case formerly handled by the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which began investigating in November, KABC reported.
Police on a search warrant have been combing through the home and backyard near the intersection of Palm Avenue and Maple Street since Wednesday, with the help of cadaver dogs, KABC reported. Authorities would not tell KABC what they were looking for, dismissing questions about whether they were looking for a body as "inappropriate."
Neighbors say that this is far from the first time police have searched the Ontario home - it has long been a trouble site.
"It's been raided about five times in 10 years," one man who did not wish to be identified told KTLA. "It was raided a few months ago."
"Activity left and right...day and night," he added. "This doesn't surprise anybody that something has happened here."
Police did not reveal specific evidence to KTLA, only that it makes sense to focus on this particular home.
"Of course the activity on the credit cards, certainly it's a possibility that these people were involved," Ontario police Sgt. David McBride told KTLA. "Detectives don't feel comfortable talking about that at this point, but again it was because of those individuals and the folks that live at the house is why we are here today."
