The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2017 awarding ceremony was held in Melbourne, Australia, and finally revealed the best dining option destinations around the globe. Over a thousand industry leaders, consisting of food critiques, chefs and restaurateurs, voted for the best restaurant.
This year, for the second time in 15 years, the World's Best Restaurant is located outside the European region. The Eleven Madison Park of New York received the nod from the voters and emerged as the top placer among the other competitors. This is America's another win since the French Laundry of California bagged the award in 2004.
Head chef Daniel Humm and co-owner Will Guidara lead the restaurant in New York. "For us, any time you succeed in anything you need the ability to take stock of what got you there in the first place," Guidara told CNN News. "For us, it's this relationship, this trust, this dynamic."
Meanwhile, Humm offers guests at the restaurant a modern French cuisine with a New Yorker twist, even though he is Swiss-based. The Eleven Madison Park signature dish is its Lavender and Honey Duck.
During the ceremony, famed chef Heston Blumenthal received the Lifetime Achievement Award while Dominique Ansel, who created the well-known "cronut," garnered the World's Best Pastry Chef award. The Chef's Award went to Lima-based chef Virgilio Martinez, and the World's Best Female Chef goes to Slovenia's Ana Ros.
Restaurants also bagged the awards, and El Celler de Can Roca of Spain received the Art of Hospitality Award after winning the World's Best Restaurant in 2013 and 2015. Disfrutar of Barcelona is named 2017's One to Watch. France received two titles for its two restaurants, namely, Septime as 2017 Sustainable Restaurant and the Alleno Paris au Pavillon Ledoyen as the highest new entry.
