Cheap Hotels: When to Book Hotels in Popular U.S. Cities

This won't help those who need to travel on certain dates due to business, wedding or any-other planned event of last-minute issue, but for those who can plan their trips and are working on a tight budget; this will help in deciding when to book.

New York is the city that never sleeps and millions of people flock to New York every year. Some of those people don't care about the prices or where they stay. Some people actually want to stay at the ritzier hotels just to say they did.

For those who want to spend their money on "tourist stuff" or food, the best time to book, according to Hotwire, January, February, Fourth of July weekend and the week before Christmas. The room rates can go as low as $93 (this month), compared to a peak of $250 for the first week of December.

If Las Vegas is the destination of choice, again, according to Hotwire, try mid-May to mid-August where rates in early August fall as low as $55 a night. Yes, it is hot in the desert, but Las Vegas is a town, no matter the time or weather, one can fulfill their time with numerous of indoor activities, On the flip-side, New Year's Eve is the most expensive hotel night, with rates climbing to an average of $152.

Have children and "going to Disneyland" the best time to see Mickey Mouse and company in Orlando is-well, as long as one is not duped by the Disneyland packages and prefer to stay driving or bus distant away, the rates pretty much stay consistent throughout the year. The expensive season is the time between Christmas and New Year when prices can reach $75 a night. Other than that, look to pay around $50 on most other days.

Other favorite travel spots like Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, prices are relatively low in the winter and higher in the spring/summer months, but not by a large margin.
