A powerful storm wreaked havoc throughout Adairsville, GA on Wednesday. The storm killed one person and tore apart cars and buildings as tornadoes formed.
According to the Associated Press, the body of the victim was found among the storm damage in Adairsville. It is not clear how the person died.Winds were at extreme highs and were powerful enough to turn over tractor-trailers. Large sections of a manufacturing plant were destroyed. Interstate 75 had to be closed on both sides as the storm flipped cars onto other cars and onto the shoulder of the highway.
The weather had been strange in the South and Midwest as temperatures were higher than usual. The storm was created when a warm front from the Gulf of Mexico collided with a cold front form the west.
The storm also caused severe damage in Tennessee. One man died when high winds caused a tree to fall onto a shed where he had taken shelter. Officials confirmed that there was a tornado that had 115 mph winds in Mount Juliet, but no one was seriously injured there. Homes, a warehouse and a car business didn't fare so well though. A shopping center parking lot was littered with chunks of metal.
The office for The Tennessean newspaper was destroyed as the cinderblock walls had crumbled, leaving only the metal frame behind. Rick Martin, who helps deliver the papers wasn't in the building when the storm occurred.
"We feel real lucky," he said on Wednesday morning as looked at the damage. "I would have hated to be in here when this happened."
The last time a person was killed by a tornado was on June 24, 2012 in Highlands County, Fla. Before that, three people were killed in Missouri on June 4.
