As the laptop ban in the US and UK is now in effect, several affected airlines are making the most out of the situation. For Etihad Airlines, passengers on first and business class can avail a free iPad and Wi-Fi connection to those who need it, as well as power and USB ports.
"To help you keep in touch with work, friends and family, from 2 April 2017 we are offering First and Business Class guests free Wi-Fi and iPads on all our US bound flights from Abu Dhabi. Premium Class guests on Etihad Airways flights to the US will receive Wi-Fi vouchers from our cabin crew with the onboard welcome drink. These vouchers will provide free Wi-Fi for the duration of the flight," said a statement made by Etihad Airlines.
Because Etihad is a United Arab Emirates-based airline, it's one of the affected airlines by the ban. Only those who are traveling to the US from Abu Dhabi or vice versa can avail the said service. According to Lonely Planet, first and business class guests will get a voucher upon boarding and if the need arises, they just need to hand in the voucher to the cabin crew to use the service.
Passengers also need not worry about the iPads draining out. Every seat is equipped with a USB port, power sockets, and lightning cables. To those who want an alternative source of entertainment, varying in-flight entertainments are also available. You can watch your favorite movie, catch the latest news, or play several choices of interactive games.
The laptop ban refers to all electronic devices larger than a mobile phone to be safely stowed in checked-in luggage because of an increased risk for terrorists to put explosives in the said devices. For the US, a total of eight countries are affected by the ban, while in the UK, only six countries are affected.
