In a country where Football is king, most Americans don't follow the "World's Game" of soccer.
Some American criticisms are that it is boring or too much diving or...anything to prove that soccer isn't worth their time.
Well, most American sports fans might not give soccer a second chance and might not care for the game, but the one thing Americans, and people, regardless on nationally do care about is money.
When it comes to money and sports, according to christianpost.com, the richest club in the world, surpassing the $3 billion mark is English Premier League club, Manchester United.
The credit for this value-the Glazer family (American business family, owners of not just Manchester United, but the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers) put out a public offering of the club. 16.7 million shares of the team, approximately, 10 percent, went on sale in August, at $14 a share, that price has now risen to $17 a share. According to Forbes' Mike Ozanian the leap in price is due to a few factors.
"Despite a drop in first quarter earnings because of a reduction in television revenue, the appetite for shears of the 19-tine English champion has increased due to brighter earnings prospects from new sponsorship deals with Japan's Kansai and China Constructions Bank, and the potential of much more lucrative English Premiership and Champions League payouts this year," he said, according to isportstimes.com.
With this recent boom in the stock, many of United's reported 659 million fans worldwide, according to isportstimes.com, would love to grab a piece of their team, but according to United's Ed Woodward, "the Glazers have no plans to release any more shares for many, many years," quote from isportstimes.com.
For some perspective, second on the list of most-valuable teams is the Dallas Cowboys with an estimated worth of 2.1 million, that isn't even close.
With United eclipsing the $3 billion mark, there is nothing stopping them from reaching the $4 billion mark in the near future.
Below is Mike Ozanian's video on United's worth and several reasons.
