After getting one of two DUI's, you might learn your lesson, but one man was charged with his 17th DUI recently.
Maurice Larrivee of Quebec went for a little joy ride to the grocery store to pick up a case of two dozen beers at 8:45 on Sunday morning. The cashier noticed that the 69-year-old seemed rather intoxicated already so they tried to convince him to not drive home, The Canadian Press reports.
Larrivee didn't listen to the warning and went back into his car anyway. The store employees then decided to take matters into their own hands and called the police. The police showed up and arrested Larrivee in the parking lot.
Larrivee knows what it means to get a DUI. The last time he got one, in 2005, his license was taken away for five years.
While 17 DUI's might sound surprising, Larrivee doesn't hold the record. Another Quebec man was charged with his 19th DUI in 2009.
That was Roger Walsh's last DUI as he hit and killed a woman while drunk. The judge gave him a life sentence as he determined that he was unable to quit drinking.
