It seems that every day another celebrity is dying. First it was the comic Sinbad, then it was Bill Cosby, which was followed by the sudden death of Adam Sandler, and now, another celebrity has apparently left us prematurely.
Who is it?
"Mr. Boombastic" himself, Shaggy.
It was reported earlier this week that he died after or during a bar fight, in Los Angeles.
Upon hearing the news, Twitter and Facebook went crazy, spreading even more rumors about the reggae star's supposed death.
However, don't shed a tear, Shaggy is alive and well-he is just another victim of the celebrity-hoax death list.
Shaggy, born Orville Richard Burrell, was quick to act, dispensing the death rumors by informing TMZ.com, speaking in first-person terminology,
"Shaggy is like a cat with nine lives. I can happily report that he's alive and kicking and in the same building as me right as we speak (sic)."
The Jamaican-American, self-named, "International Superstar," well, at least that is what is written on his Twitter profile, has been in the music business for over 20 years, releasing 10 albums, most notably, "Boombastic," in 1995, which contains, arguably, his biggest hit, "Mr. Boombastic," which won him a Grammy Award, and, "Hot Shot," in 2000, which featured the songs "Angel" and "It Wasn't Me"
The funny part, or sad part, depending on how one looks at it-this isn't the first time the internet machine has killed off Shaggy.
Remember the time he died in a bungee jumping incident somewhere in South America?
What about the time he was skiing in Austria and ran into a tree?
Wait. Hold on. That wasn't him, was it? Wasn't that somebody else?
Either way, at least this time, Shaggy can quote one of his own songs and smile, "it wasn't me."
