Kensington Palace will be under renovation for the next weeks to further upgrade the grounds for tourists. The palace itself welcomes 400,000 people every year, and the royal palace would like to add a restaurant building on top of extended kitchens, basements, and a room full of displays of royal dresses in its property.
The palace has already reserved a space for travelers to know the history of Kensington and other royalties. But another building will be constructed a few meters away from the Orangery restaurant. The new space, Travel and Leisure reports, consists of a new room for offices for the palace's employees as a two-story underground basement. Extended kitchens for the Orangery and a room for royal dresses will also be built for tourists.
A representative for Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) was reported as saying: "The new building will provide improved access to the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, new kitchens, and facilities for the Orangery restaurant. It will also include essential office and workspace enabling us to continue to welcome visitors, students and researchers from around the world."
The proposal for the new plans has been forwarded to the HRP, with the decision to be announced in the last week of April. British ministers, however, have been strict on putting new developments in the palace.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate's apartment in Kensington Palace, Apartment A1, won't be affected by the renovations. The royal family is expected to live in the palace later this year after being in Amner Hall in Norfolk for years.
Currently, the palace is exhibiting Diana: Her Fashion Story dress displays in honor of the late Princess of Wales. Various lectures on fashion and the princess' style are being held at the palace. The White Garden has been designed and landscaped with flowers inspired from Princess's life and style.
