Singapore has once again snagged the number one spot having the world's best airport. For five straight years, the Changi Airport retained its title and was awarded at the Skytrax World Airport Awards in Amsterdam on March 14.
The Singaporean airport has already won a total of eight awards since the World Airport Awards started in 2000. Aside from that, it has also received other international awards like the Best Airport in Asia and Best Airport for Leisure Amenities.
However, CNN reports that Tokyo Haneda International Airport retains the top spot for the cleanest airport, with Changi Airport sliding down from 4th to 6th place this year. For best airport dining, Hongkong International Airport moves to 1st place while Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport gets the best airport staff service award. When it comes to shopping, London keeps its spot for having the best airport shopping.
Millions of passengers all over the world were a part of the survey to determine the World's Best Airport. According to The Straits Times, this year's award was taken from the nominations of 13.82 million passengers of 105 different nationalities from 550 airports all over the world.
Different categories were used as key indicators to determine customer satisfaction. Some of the categories focused on the performances of the airports on how they handled services during transfers, check-ins, security checks and departures. Aside from that, airport facilities such as shops, bathrooms and lounging areas were also taken into consideration.
Overall, the ones that made it to the top ten in descending order were Changi Airport, Tokyo International Airport, Incheon International Airport, Munich Airport, Hongkong International Airport, Hamad International Airport, Chubu Centrair Nagoya, Zurich Airport, London Heathrow Airport and Frankfurt Airport.
