There are reports coming in that the "Samsung Galaxy S8" release date has been set for April 21 and pre-orders for the latest flagship could start on April 10. Samsung's latest smartphone device is also said to add another layer of security with its facial recognition feature.
According to Tyler Lee of Ubergizmo, there was an initial report that the "Galaxy S8" would be launched on April 21, but the follow-up report said it might be delayed to April 28. But a recent news from Ming-Ching Kuo of KGI Securities said that Samsung is on track for the April 21 release of their new flagship phone.
Lee said that Kuo has a great track record when it comes predictions about Apple, but has not yet been proven with other devices. Kuo also confirmed that Samsung will be releasing the "Galaxy S8" in two variants, the S8 and S8+.
Kuo also said that Samsung will be powering the new flagship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, for devices being shipped to the U.S., China, and Japan, while the other countries' S8 will be getting an Exynos 8895.
Another feature that the "Samsung Galaxy S8" will be having is a facial recognition, according to a report from Korea Economic Daily (via The Korea Herald). This new security feature will go along with the device's iris scanner feature.
A Samsung official said that they added this new security feature due to the speed and accuracy limitation of the iris scanning. With facial recognition, users can be able to unlock their phones in "less than 0.01 seconds."
At this point, Lee said it's hard to know if the "Samsung Galaxy S8" will launch on April 21 or 28. Kuo has a great track record of accuracy for predictions about Apple, but not much evidence yet when it comes to other brands. Furthermore, the report about Samsung's delay also came from someone who is well-known in leaking information about devices and has a good track record, Evan Blass, so it's hard to tell who is right among them.
Fans who are eagerly awaiting Samsung's latest flagship will just have to wait by the end of March or early April when Samsung finally makes an official announcement. Learn more about the "Samsung Galaxy S8" in the video below.
