A bear cub has been found, called Booboo who is in "A Grizzly Experience". The 125 pound cub escaped from his home in Naples, Florida while authorities searched for the bear. The Huffington Post reported that Booboos owners posted this message on their Facebook, "Booboo is home safe and sound!"
A press release from The Collier County Sheriff's Office said that deputies were searching for the grizzly bear cub that ran away.
The cub "ran away from a residence in the 4000 block of DeSoto Boulevard around 11 a.m.
Deputies are cautioning residents in the area to be on alert for the cub and not approach it.
Residents are advised to secure trash cans in their garage or enclosed area," said the Press release.
Carli Segelson from the Fish and Wildlife Commission warned that even though the bear is a cub, caution is important.
"It's a large animal so, yes, they should exercise caution," she said according to the News-Press of southwest Florida. "Don't approach the bear. It was somebody's pet, so that can go either way. A pet is used to people, but it's probably scared. It's away from its sibling."
Booboo is owned by Dexter and Megan Osborn, a couple who operate a business called "A Grizzly Experience" which is an "entertaining and educational show and exhibit" that features the bears. The Huffington Post reported tha their website states the bears have been trained to be animal actors and live in a "2-acre habitat where they can roam, swim and play all day."
Booboo's brother Yogi and another bear, Tonk also live on the property. Grizzly Experience's website states, "We travel around the United States to different fairs, festivals and sports shows to give the public an opportunity to get up close to a real Alaskan Grizzly Bear, while learning a little about them and what to do if you encounter a Grizzly Bear in the wild."
It is still not known how BooBoo escaped from the home. Grizzly Bears can be dangerous cratures and National Geographic says that they are "powerful, top-of-the-food-chain predators."
They normally eat berries, fruit, nuts, leaves and roots but they are also know to eat other animals. Though they don't generally attack humans they can get aggressive when they feel threatened, reported The Huffington Post.
The Huffington Post also reported that Grizzly bears are a threatened species, much of it due to humans who ruin their habitats and hunt them.
