Jets Collide in Miami: Two Planes Damaged in Collision at Miami International Airport

Two jets collided at Miami International Airport on Thursday night. Both planes were damaged but no one was injured in the incident.

An Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus carrying 240 passengers landed at the Florida airport at around 5:45p.m. The plane then hit an Air France 777-300 jet which was about to takeoff with 350 passengers.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the planes both sustained damage and will be out of service. One plane sustained damage to the wingtip and another had a broken tail section. It is not clear how the incident occurred yet.

"Neither plane will be flying tonight," MIA spokesman Marc Henderson told the Miami Herald.

The incident caused several flights to be delayed. The passengers who arrived from Argentina were allowed to get off the plane and the passengers on the Frenxh flight had to pick up their baggage and stand in a line as they waited for the airline to get them situated on another flight.

Over 350 passengers took up four lines at the Air France station and many were understandably frustrated, which lead to arguments.

"The first altercation I saw was a group of guys that got fed up with people cutting in front of them," Alex Legion, 24, a professional basketball player from Hungary told the Herald. "The second altercation I saw was when people from business class started to cut the economy line and a lady and a guy got into an argument."

Some passengers on the flights described the collision as feeling like an earthquake while some described it as light shaking.

"This is not a very common occurrence," MIA spokesman Henderson said. "I can't recall the last time we had planes collide."

However a similar incident occurred just last month. Two planes were damaged in December at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport when the wingtip of a taxiing plane hit the tail of a parked plane.
