It looks like Facebook has just made it harder for Snapchat to attract users in the international market with its newest feature. The social networking giant is the latest social networking website to copy Snapchat Stories with its Messenger Day.
According to a report from Techcrunch, Facebook first tested its newest feature in Poland and Australia and it has proven to be successful, gaining millions of users. Now it is making the Messenger Day available globally.
The Messenger Day works similarly like Snapchat Stories wherein users can share a photo or a video to the public and it will be available for 24 hours. Users can also control who gets to views these shared images or videos.
The report said that this new feature could encourage visual communications if it catches on to the public. Facebook Messenger even has an enhanced camera, where it turns text into filters for users to play with and use on Messenger Day.
This makes Facebook the latest social networking site to copy Snapchat Stories, after Instagram and WhatsApp already made the feature available in their platforms, according to a report from Recode. Though Facebook is already late to the party, this could still be a problem for Snapchat, especially for its growth.
The report said that Facebook's reason for copying the feature is more likely to put a ceiling to the reach of Snapchat's user growth. Messenger and WhatsApp already have more than a billion users and most of them are outside the United States.
The social networking app has yet to catch on to users outside the U.S. and with Facebook now entering the fold, Snapchat will have a hard time capturing user interest. With Facebook already offering what Snapchat is offering, there's no reason for users to try it anymore.
The report adds that Facebook will also not be featuring ads between user-generated Days and it's a feature that's available together with the launch of Messenger Day. Check out how to use the Facebook Messenger Day in the video below.
