In New York City there's a Dunkin Donuts on seemingly every block. Now, the popular sweet treat chain is heading to Southern California. CNBC reported that Dunkin Donuts has said they plan on opening franchises in six Southern California franchises. But Dunkin fans may have wait for some time, with plans to open up shop in 2015.
Dunkin has plans to open up shops in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Ventura, San Diego and Orange Counties reported the Los Angeles Times.
The chain had a short lived time in Southern California in the past and Dunkin CEO and President Nigel Travis said that fans were asking the company constantly about coming to California.
"It's a no brainer," Travis said to CNBC. "So many people have written to us, so many investors have asked us, and the question all the time is: 'When are you going to come to California?'"
CNBC reported that Dunkin donuts opened 291 new shops in 2012 and have plans to open between 330 and 360 in 2013. They are doing exceptionally well.
"This past year was an exciting one for Dunkin' Donuts' growth in the United States, and we are delighted to begin 2013 with the long-awaited announcement that Dunkin' Donuts will be opening restaurants in California, where there is already incredible passion for our brand," Travis said in a press release.
The chain had some stores in California at one point but they had all closed down by the late 1990s. The LA Times reported that Dunkin Donuts said it has plans to have more than 15,000 shops nationwide.
