A new hotel booking website has the goal of recruiting more people t stay in eco-friendly hotels. The new Netherlands-based website, BookDifferent is making it easier for travelers to find environmentally friendly digs to stay in on vacation.
BookDifferent says they are the first site to allow users to compare different eco-friendly and no eco-friendly hotels.
"We believe there is a strong green awareness among leisure and business travelers which will continue to grow," said BookDifferent chairman Bastiaan Fronik to CNN. "To meet their expectations we want to work together with many more eco-labels in the future."
BookDifferent is a non-profit foundation with a goal to provide financial support to as many charities as possible.
"To achieve our goal we run this hotel booking website. Since we are a non-profit foundation we donate part of our earnings to charity while offering the client the Best Price Guarantee. You are free to select the charity that we donate the money to," states BookDifferent's website.
By using the website travelers can search for hotels in the city they want to go to by using various filters including green awards such as Green Globe which is the global travel and tourism industries' certification program for sustainable tourism.
"Hotels with a Green Key award have fulfilled various requirements covering environmental management, staff involvement (in eco issues) and water usage, among many others, reports CNN. "Hotels with a Green Globe award save energy and water, reduce operating costs and contribute to local communities and their environments."
BookDifferent was set up by four internet developers. The website says,"In the current economic times it's not easy to run a charity and we hope this site will give a helping hand."
