Those who took the train yesterday may have been in for a shock when they were surrounded by people who seemed to have forgotten to wear pants. The mass pantless movement was just part of the annual No Pants Subway Ride 2013.
The No Pants Subway Ride takes place every year in the chilly month of January in New York City. This year it took place on Sunday, January 13. The movement started in 2002 by Improv Everywhere. It started as a small prank but it has grown into an international movement and now takes place in over 60 cities in 27 countries around the world.
The basic idea of the No Pants Subway Ride is to board a train and random stops in the middle on winter while wearing no pants. Participants wear winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves. They just don't have pants. The movement is done to make people laugh but participants are asked not to act abnormally. They might have no pants on, but they act as if nothing is strange about the situation, even thought people around them may be laughing.
