Want to have the most unforgettable travel experience of your life? Why not go to the moon?
SpaceX, an American-based rocket company headed by Elon Musk, announced their plans of sending two space tourists next year on a week-long trip around the moon and back. The passengers, whose names have not been disclosed, is said to undergo extensive training and fitness tests before they could start the venture.
If successful, the tourists would be the first people in 40 years to travel outside the Earth's orbit. According to SpaceX: "Like the Apollo astronauts before them, these individuals will travel into space carrying the hopes and dreams of all humankind, driven by the universal human spirit of exploration."
Also, SpaceX plans to send more people to the moon once everything goes smoothly. According to them, many individuals have already expressed their interest in making the trip, and one or two trips a year is possible for the moon trip.
The demand for space tourism is getting higher every year. But due to the cost and extensive preparation for each space mission, only a fraction of the world's population will be able to afford such trip. SpaceX's first customers are said to have paid millions for such an adventure.
In a more detailed statement on their website, SpaceX said: "Once operational Crew Dragon missions are underway for NASA, SpaceX will launch the private mission on a journey to circumnavigate the moon and return to Earth. Lift-off will be from Kennedy Space Center's historic Pad 39A near Cape Canaveral - the same launch pad used by the Apollo program for its lunar missions."
"This presents an opportunity for humans to return to deep space for the first time in 45 years and they will travel faster and further into the Solar System than any before them."
The identities of the two people who might be able to make the trip have not yet been revealed, but reports are saying that neither of them are from Hollywood.
