New Trump Tower And Hotel In Vancouver Receives Negative Welcome

More and more people are getting angrier each day since Donald Trump became president of the United States. His controversial travel ban to seven major Muslim countries, as well as his views on Mexicans, Muslims, women, and other minorities have made him one of the most hated people in the world today.

Residents of Vancouver, Canada share the same sentiments, as the new Trump Tower & Hotel have received mostly negative feedback. Civilians, as well as politicians, are angry about the very existence of the property, which has become quite controversial even before its inauguration last February 28.

The Trump Tower & Hotel in Vancouver is a luxury hotel/condominium with mountain and ocean views. It's the second highest-building in Vancouver and has drawn praise for its modern and sleek design. But the residents aren't fazed by the building's beauty.

Several local politicians have voiced out their distaste at the existence of the property. Mayor Gregor Robertson refused to attend the building's inauguration, saying in a letter: "Trump's name and brand have no more place on Vancouver's skyline than his ignorant ideas have in the modern world."

British Columbia Premier Christy Clark also expressed her concerns about the displacement of the Trump name in Vancouver, saying that the brand is in conflict with the city's support in environmental causes and open drug policies. City council's Kerry Jang said that it "represents a brand that's over the top, glitz and glamor. It's not our thing. It's a beacon of racism ... intolerance, sexism and bullying."

Joo Kim Tiah, the property developer, was saddened about the people's views about the hotel. His business affiliation with Trump has instantly made him very disliked in Vancouver, and even though at several occasions he pointed out that the hotel's workers are made up of different ethnicities, with several condo owners as foreigners, people still hate him. He, however, expressed that he understands.

Prices of the condo units in the Trump Tower start at $1 million, while a two-bedroom apartment costs around $1.7 million. Rates for the hotel rooms start at $228 a night.
