The Waldorf Astoria is well known as a New York hotel mainstay. Now, the Waldorf Astoria is opening up a hotel in Berlin.
Hilton Worldwide which own Waldorf Astoria opened its first hotel in Berlin on January 3. The hotel boasts 232 luxurious rooms in the Zoofenster skyscraper and is close to Kurfürstendamm which is one of Berlin's major shopping areas.
CNN reported that currently only 180 rooms are open through floors one through 15.
"The design and venues are a mix of French and German. The building's exterior was designed by German architect Christoph Mackler, while the interior was headed by French design company Inter Art Etudes," reports CNN.
The hotel is also home to a restaurant which is run by Michelin-starred French chef Pierre Gagnaire and a spa by Geurlain, which is a French beauty brand.
The hotel in Berlin is the fifth European location for Hilton Worldwide which also has plans for a Waldorf Astoria in Jerusalem and Amsterdam in 2014.
Berlin is an ideal place for the Waldorf Astoria. The hotel's website says of the booming metropolis that "some compare Berlin to the New York of the 1980s. There are many similarities, and Berlin has certainly become a world-class metropolis - an exciting place to live and visit. It is one of the most influential centres in European politics, culture and science, and where many German and international companies have business or service centres. It is also one of the world's top three conferencing destinations. "
As a city Berlin has a rich history and is known for its cultural and artistic institutions. With over 170 museums and galleries, and a plethora of nightlife options it has become one of Europe's hottest travel destinations.
