Mack Beggs, who has been identified as a transgender boy recently won during the Texas state championship of the girls wrestling category. The competition happened in University Interscholastic League in Texas which means that the high school wrestler can only compete with girl players even for a fact that Beggs took testosterone as part of his transition.
It was on Saturday when Beggs won the girls 6A state wrestling competition title in a 110-pound class. He was a 17-year old junior at the Euless Trinity and has generally won over 56-0 for the record with only one year of eligibility. However, his title was a bit controversial due to the fact that people were thinking that his testosterone had given him an unfair benefit over other wrestlers, Los Angeles Times reported.
On the other hand, during an interview, Beggs cleared the fact that he don't care about the boos since what he had worked for has finally paid off. Apparently, Beggs has been taking his testosterone supplement for two years now and some people thought of it as a performance-enhancing steroid.
As per assistant professor of Emory University, Dr. Brandon Mines, he added that testosterone and anabolic steroids are both in the same family and might give certain effects on increasing muscle mass and strength of the person.
Despite the criticism he got from the crowd, Beggs was seen standing proud with a head high. One of the player's mother even commented that Beggs didn't won at all since for them the transgender boy was cheating, Telegraph reported.
Further, Beggs would rather have to complete with boy wrestlers however; the policy states that his division was determined by the gender of his birth certificate. That policy was already endorsed last year by UIL which somehow supervises Texas high school sports.
Meanwhile, Beggs was seen unstoppable throughout the season and this made him gave a dominant performance on the final.
