Sergio Romo, the pitcher for the San Francisco Giants was detained at a Las Vegas airport for fighting with a TSA officer.
The baseball pitcher faces a misdemeanor summons after he failed to provide proper identification to the Transportation Security Administration at McCarran International Airport on Tuesday. This then escalated into a dispute. Romo was then handcuffed. Sources say he may have been intoxicated at the time, TMZ reports.
Romo, 29, was taken to an airport police station. He was cited for violating airport rules and then he was released. However he was not allowed to fly after the incident and was escorted out of the airport.
Romo will appear in a Las Vegas Justice Court at a later date.In a statement released by the Giants, Romo apologized for the incident, according to USA Today.
"I would like to sincerely apologize about the recent events at the Las Vegas airport which brought negative attention to the San Francisco Giants organization and its fans," Romo said. "I love and respect the Giants, my teammates and our fans and promise to conduct myself in the future in the "San Francisco Giants Way."
Romo was in Vegas partying it up for the New Year. He was photographed at a party in Sin City on Dec. 30.
No other travelers were affected by the incident.
Romo helped bring his team to a championship win at the 2012 World Series.
