Ozzy Osbourne Could have Birmingham Airport Named After Him

The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, could now have an airport named after him. The Huffington Post reported that the head of the record company that discoered Black Sabbath wants Birmingham Airport in the United Kingdom to be renamed after Osbourne.

"The message that would carry is instantly international, confident, powerful, unforgettable and says 'Hey World, we are proud of our own," Jim Simpson of Big Bear Music said to Birmingham Mail "Ozzy might not always have been a paragon of virtue, but he is a genuine flesh and blood Brummie."

Council chiefs are considering the name change, following both Liverpool and Belfast airports being named after celebrities from their home towns. Liverpool's Speke airport was renamed John Lennon Airport and Belfast Airport is now called George Best Belfast City Airport, named after the soccer star.

"I believe it would be a masterstroke that would instantly confound the cynics." Simpson said to The Daily Mirror. "How does The Ozzy Osbourne International Airport resonate? The message says, 'Hey world, we are proud of our own'."

The Daily Mirror reported that Councillor Philip Parkin has confirmed that talks had been taken place in regards to the name change.

"It's an interesting idea and I've got an open mind," he said to The Daily Mirror. "I would be interested to know what people thought about it. We need to be making the most of the talent we have got and did have in this city."

Other airports that have been named after celebrities include, Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California; Arnold Palmer Regional Arport in Pennsylvania; John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California; and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
