J.K. Rowling is dead. At least that's what Twitter is saying. However the Harry Potter author didn't die. She's just the victim of a social media death hoax. Rowling is just fine.
On Wednesday, a Twitter account for British author John Le Carré wrote some shocking tweets saying that J.K. Rowling died.
"A terrible news. My publisher phones me announcing that J.K. Rowling dies by accident. Few minutes ago. No words!," the account said.
"Little Brown, the Rowling's publisher, confirmed. J.K.Rowling died. Press release soon. Please, wait official ann.," it said in a later tweet.
The account is a fake. It was created a few days ago and the third and fourth tweets are about Rowling's supposed death, making it very suspicious. Also, it is highly doubtful that a best-selling author would make such poor grammatical mistakes with improper English. It would also be strange for le Carre to be the first to announce the death, especially when he doesn't even write for the same publisher as Rowling.
Yet the account has over 2,400 followers and the shocking news of Rowling's supposed death was retweeted over 150 times.
Despite the account being a fake, some fans are beggining to question and mourn the death of their beloved author. Some examples of tweets include:
"HUH? J.K. Rowling dead?"
"#RIP JK Rowling"
"Just heard a rumour that JK Rowling accidently died"
"JK Rowling dead? John Le Carre got phone call from his publisher this am. No details."
Don't worry fans. J.K. Rowling is just fine.
