The PlayStation 4 title "Skylanders" will be getting another mobile game treatment and this time, fans and players will get a turn-based RPG starring the favorite characters from its original series.
With Activision Blizzard teaming up with Korean mobile game developer Com2Us, a new "Skylanders" mobile game will be getting released soon for the iOS. Based on Touch Arcade's report, this wouldn't exactly be the first mobile outing, the series will be making.
However, comparing the upcoming title to the previous ports, the new "Skylanders" game will feel like an entirely new game intended for the mobile platform with real-time PvP mechanics as opposed to a direct port. Based on what had been disclosed so far, the game is expected to be released for the iOS devices in early 2018.
In a recent press release (via Venture Beat), senior vice president of "Skylanders" said that the company is looking to explore more successful ventures with working with Com2us through his statement;
"There are many mobile game companies, but very few have found success globally," said Josh Taub, senior vice president of Skylanders product management at Activision Publishing, in a press release. "We are excited to be working with Com2us, as they have proven expertise in the mobile role-playing game genre."
Activision Blizzard already made an announcement that no new "Skylanders" game could be expected to hit the consoles this year, but it isn't to say that it will be over for the franchise either. In fact, the company has already started expanding its exposure by partnering with Netflix by bringing "Skylanders Academy." The cartoon series is already on its second season, with a third possibly following this year.
The other mobile "Skylanders" game that was released is the "Skylanders Battlecast" and this was released last year for both the Android and iOS platforms. The game utilizes card-based mechanics that pits several characters from the game and is also supported by augmented reality technology.
