A group of sharks escaped into a Chinese mall when the tank burst, leaving 15 people injured.
According to the Daily Mail, the 33-ton tank was a part of the entrance to the Shanghai Orient shopping center. The tank shattered unexpectedly on Dec. 19 and the whole thing was caught on video.
Among the injured were eight shoppers and seven employees and security members. They weren't hurt by the sharks. Most of their injuries included deep cuts and bruises from the broken glass and the rushing water.
"There were lots of injuries caused by flying glass, some of them serious because the glass was so thick. We are investigating what caused this," a police spokesman said, according to the Daily Mail.
While the sharks didn't harm the people, they became victims themselves. Three lemon sharks, dozens of turtles and fish became victims when the tank broke.
The incident was caught on CCTV. The video shows that people were standing near the aquarium when it broke. People ran as the tank burst and flooded the mall while others were knocked down by the rushing water and glass.
It is not clear why the tank burst but it may have been caused by a sudden drop in the temperature and the weather had grown very cold in Shanghai.
The tank was only two years old but it had issues in the past. In June, a water pipe ruptured, killing two sharks.
Shopping Center management official Chen Younping said they will not rebuild the aquarium.
