Mean Girls Update: Lead Cast Lindsay Lohan Wants A Sequel

Almost 15 years after "Mean Girls" hit theaters in 2004, lead star Lindsay Lohan is pondering on the idea of revisiting of her popular role as Cady Heron in the film. The actress expressed her desire of doing a direct sequel to the pop culture favorite movie, hopefully, with the original cast members.

Appearing on "The View" last Monday, Lohan admitted that she is actually down to do a "Mean Girls 2" shall the project pushes through. In fact, she even revealed that she just paid the film's producer Lorne Michaels and convinced him to be on board with her proposal.

"I went to "SNL" the other day and I was like harassing Lorne Michaels, I'm like we have to do," the actress excitedly said. "I'll write the treatment-If Tina Fey's too busy", she further added.

In the last couple of years, reboots, revivals and revisits of successful small and big screen properties have been the trend. Which makes Lohan's suggestion not too far-fetched. More so, "Mean Girls" after still being referenced up until now could be an indication that there is still interest in the "plastics" and whatever happened to them ll these years.

Behind the camera, Lindsay's castmates - Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, all went on their respective careers. McAdams, of course, appeared in the smash hit "The Notebook" alongside ex, Ryan Gosling just two years after playing "Plastics" ring leader, Regina George. Seyfried, on the other hand, played various characters until she nabbed a part in the 2012's "Les Miserables" film adaptation as Cosette. Meanwhile, Chabert dabbled in voice acting working on various animated properties and even video games like "Justice League Action" and "The Lion King II: Simba's Pride."

Technically, a "Mean Girls 2" has already been worked on and was released in 2011. But while it took the core premise of the original "Mean Girls" narrative, it featured a different set of characters and was marketed as a television film instead of a full-length flick. And while the project still attracted interest from female viewers, it failed to capture the magic of its supposed predecessor.

"Yes, they should. They're smart with timing. It will come when the time is right," Lohan explained during her guest appearance. "It's a great movie. It's a cult film", the film star added.
