The 2014 Olympic host city of Sochi was hit with a 5.3 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday morning.
A mild earthquake hit the city during the early morning hours. No one was hurt by the quake and there doesn't appear to be any significant damage.
"Emergencies Ministry servicemen scoured through the city districts, bridges and electrical cables, there was no damage," Irina Gogoleva, of Russia's Emergencies Ministry told Reuters.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 93 miles off Sochi in the Black Sea.
Sochi will be used as the 2014 Winter Olympics host site from Feb. 7-23, so President Vladimir Putin ordered authorities to inspect the sites for damage. Many of them are still under construction.
"The president has ordered the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry to pay attention to the tremors felt in Sochi and other cities. The president said the ministry should concentrate on the unfinished sites and see that they are not damaged," presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said, accordin to RBTH.
Buildings around the city are being inspected.
"All forces of the Southern Federal District are at work; every socially significant building is being checked," Russian Emergency Situations Ministry spokesperson Irina Rossius told RBTH.
"Task forces of the Krasnodar territorial emergency situations department, municipal authorities and the Interior Ministry were assigned to inspection missions. They have examined the Lazarevskoye, Khosta, Tsentralny and Alder districts," the southern regional center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said, according to RBTH.
It appears that no apartments, bridges, roads or power lines were damaged by the quake.
In addition to the earthquake, there was a gas pipelines explosion in the city.This incident was unrelated to the quake.
Sochi is located in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, which is on the Black Sea coast near the border between Georgia and Russia.
