A Saudi tourist has been sentenced to a year in jail for having sex with a prostitute in a Dubai hotel.
The 32-year-old Saudi man claims he hired the woman to give him a massage only, but he was jailed for having sexual relations with the 34-year-old Uzbek woman called D.R., according to Gulf News.
The woman faces three years of jail time for admitting to being a prostitute.
The two also received another month in jail for drinking alcohol.
"I am not guilty. I did not have sex with her... I tried to be sociable when I consumed liquor," the man said, according to Gulf News.
Upon completing the jail time, the man and woman will be deported.
The Saudi man's lawyer argued that the woman's claims were not true and that his client never had sex with her.
"He did not have sex with D.R. They met in a nightclub and he invited her over to his hotel room. There he got naked so she could give him a massage... but they did not have sex. She gave an inconsistent statement before the police. One time she claimed that B.A. had protected sex with her and another time she claimed that he had unprotected and bizarre intercourse with her. It's true that he removed his clothes, but not for sex... for a massage," the lawyer said in his written argument, according to Gulf News.
However forensic evidence tells another story. Investigators found semen and DNA on the bed sheets, as well as D.R.'s underwear.
The Uzbek woman admitted to being in Dubai illegally ad she was previously deported for working in the sex industry in the country. She said she smuggled her way into Dubai through Al Buraimi. She asked for a swift and lenient ruling.
The two have 15 days to appeal the ruling.
The United Arab Emirates has very strict sex laws. Sex outside of marriage is prohibited and those who break the law face jail time, a fine or deportation. Even people unrelated people of the opposite sex are not allowed to share a hotel room if they're unmarried.
