A toddler is recovering after falling off a cruise balcony on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship at Port Canaveral.
The 14-month old boy from India was injured after he crawled away from his father and fell from the 11th to the 10th floor of the Monarch of the Seas just after leaving the port, according to WKMG.
The boy was initially treated on the ship's medical center but they couldn't provide sufficient care. The ship was forced to turn back to Port Canaveral, Fla., so the boy could be flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando with his family.
Royal Caribbean International confirmed that a boy from India was injured in the fall and initially treated in the ship's medical facility, but required "additional and urgent medical attention that could only be provided in a hospital." After the fall, the ship turned around and returned to Port Canaveral, Fla., on the same day it left, where the child received "urgent medical care."
"Our Care Team is providing support and assistance to the guest's family. Our thoughts are with their family, and we will continue to do our very best to assist them," Royal Caribbean said in its statement, according to USA Today.
The ship was on a three-night journey to CocoCay and Nassau, Bahamas when the incident occurred. The ship was delayed but it did not miss any of the ports.
