'The LEGO Batman Movie' Tops US Box Office This Week; Matt Damon's The Great Wall Flopped

The latest LEGO movie spinoff with Batman as the protagonist topped the box office again this week. The "LEGO Batman" Movie triumphs other newcomers like "The Great Wall," "Fist Fight" and "A Cure for Wellness."

LA Times has written that the Warner Brother's "The LEGO Batman" Movie got the top spot for the second week already with an estimated $34.2 million. However, the movie dropped 35.4% ticket sales from last week, rounding up its domestic sale by $98.7 million.

Coming next to The LEGO Batman Movie is Universal's "Fifty Shades Darker", The Guardian has reported. The erotic movie based from the bestselling novel dipped 55% in its second week, making $89.6 million domestic sale.

Universal and Legendary's "The Great Wall" starring Matt Damon made its debut in the box office at the third spot, according in a report from Forbes. After its four-day weekend showing, it is expected to earn $21 million. "The Great Wall," known for its controversy in whitewashing, failed to reach its $45 million opening goal.

Coming in number four spot is Lionsgate's "John Wick: Chapter Two" with an estimated $19.5 million. The sequel to the 2014 action flick starring Keanu Reeves is expected to earn a total of $58.6 million in its domestic gross.

Completing the top five is the new Warner Bros' comedy "Fist Fight," which delivered an estimated $12 million in its debut. The flick starring Ice Cube and Charlie Day was actually expected to finish with over $13 million since it was open at 3, 185 theaters.

The Oscar nominee for Best Picture "Hidden Figures" climbs at the sixth place. Overall, it has already $140 million gross domestically, making it the highest grossing Best Picture nominee of 2016.

M. Night Shyamalan's "Split" starring James McAvoy earned $7 million this week, bringing in the total of $123 million domestically. Eighth spot went to the Oscar frontrunner "La La Land" with $31.7 gross this week.

Debuting at top ten is Fox's horror "A Cure for Wellness" starring Dane Dehaan. It earned an estimated gross of $4.2 million from 2, 704 theaters.
